2. दूसरा मिशन (2012): 14 जुलाई 2012 को, सुनीता ने अपने दूसरे मिशन के तहत 4 महीने तक ISS पर समय बिताया। इस मिशन में, उन्होंने 3 स्पेसवॉक किए और कुल 50 घंटे 40 मिनट स्पेसवॉक में बिताए, जो एक महिला के लिए नया रिकॉर्ड था।

3. तीसरा मिशन (2024-2025): 5 जून 2024 को, सुनीता और उनके साथी बुच विल्मोर, बोइंग स्टारलाइनर के परीक्षण मिशन पर ISS पहुंचे। यह मिशन केवल 8 दिनों का होना था, लेकिन तकनीकी समस्याओं के कारण उन्हें 9 महीने तक अंतरिक्ष में रहना पड़ा। इस दौरान, उन्होंने 900 घंटे का शोध पूरा किया, 150 से अधिक प्रयोग किए, 9 बार स्पेसवॉक किया, जिसमें 62 घंटे लगे, और अंतरिक्ष में सबसे अधिक समय बिताने वाली महिला बनीं।

Education and Early Career

Born on September 19, 1965, in Euclid, Ohio, Sunita pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science from the United States Naval Academy in 1987. She later earned a Master’s degree in Engineering Management. Before joining NASA, Sunita served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy, logging over 3,000 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft.

Space Missions and Achievements

Sunita Williams has participated in three space missions:

1. First Mission (2006-2007): As part of Expedition 14, Sunita launched into space on December 9, 2006. She spent 195 days aboard the ISS, conducting four spacewalks totaling 29 hours and 17 minutes, setting a record for the longest spaceflight by a female astronaut at that time.

2. Second Mission (2012): On July 14, 2012, Sunita embarked on her second mission, spending four months on the ISS. During this mission, she performed three spacewalks, accumulating a total of 50 hours and 40 minutes, setting a new record for female astronauts.

3. Third Mission (2024-2025): On June 5, 2024, Sunita and her colleague Butch Wilmore arrived at the ISS aboard Boeing’s Starliner for a test mission. Initially planned for 8 days, technical issues extended their stay to 9 months. During this period, they completed 900 hours of research, conducted over 150 experiments, and performed nine spacewalks totaling 62 hours, with Sunita becoming the female astronaut with the most time spent in space.

Personal Life and Honors

Sunita Williams is the second woman of Indian origin to travel to space, following Kalpana Chawla. She carried a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and a small statue of Lord Ganesha to space, reflecting her respect for her Indian heritage. In recognition of her achievements, the Government of India honored her with the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
